[Viet Nam] UNDP official honoured for poverty reduction in Viet Nam

Ha Noi, Dec. 2 (VNA) - Resident Representative and Coordinator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Jordan D. Ryan has been presented with the insignia “For the Cause of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs” by the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs.

Addressing the presentation ceremony in Ha Noi on Dec. 2, Minister Nguyen Thi Hang praised Ryan’s valuable contributions to the programme on poverty reduction and social security in Viet Nam. Noteworthy was the UNDP-funded project coded VIE/02/001, which helped implement the national strategy on poverty reduction from 2001-2005 and the national programme 135 on poverty reduction. In addition, the project was extended with a funding of 5 million USD to carry out the national poverty reduction strategy till 2010.

Hang further said that the UNDP is helping the ministry to prepare a framework programme for a unified national social security system in Viet Nam
