A labor Union of civil servants, Kamu-Sen, announced the poverty line last month as YTL 1.937,73 for a four-person family.
According to the calculations made by the Turkish Kamu-Sen, the poverty line of one working person was YTL 959,37 last month.
According to the research, the poverty line which was determined as YTL 1.937,73 for a four-person family last month rose by 0.45 percent when compared to the previous month.
The hunger line of one working person increased by 0.44 percent in the same period when compared to the previous month and totaled YTL 736,35.
The average food and shelter expenses of a four-person family in Turkey was estimated as YTL 736,65 in March 2006.
∑According to the research, the expenditures of a four-person family necessary for healthy nutrition was calculated as YTL 14,62 daily according to March 2006 data.
A civil servant who receives YTL 803,58 in average salary last month spends 54.58 percent of his/her salary for food expenses and 37.09 percent for housing expenses.
Thus, 91.67 percent of a civil servant’s salary is spent only for food and shelter expenses. In order to meet the basic requirements such as transportation, health, education, communications and clothing of a civil servant-family, there is only YTL 66,94 left.
